Windows has one of the strongest selections of projection mapping software, but the applications target very different jobs. Some are focused mappers, some are VJ suites, and others are full visual programming environments. Choosing the right one starts with deciding whether your project needs direct surface warping, show performance tools, multi-projector output, or custom interactive logic.

1. HoloMapper
For a Windows computer connected to one projector or external output, HoloMapper provides a focused workflow: add a surface, assign media or a live source, warp the geometry, and send the final result to the projector.
Windows users can work with mesh warping, Bezier curves, images, videos, GIFs, text, custom shapes, presets, snapping, Auto Aspect, NDI input/output, and Spout input/output. Spout is particularly useful on Windows because compatible applications can share GPU textures locally with very low overhead.
HoloMapper is available through Steam and is sold as a one-time purchase rather than a subscription.
2. MadMapper
MadMapper is a strong Windows option for professional mapping-first workflows. Its current feature documentation lists multiple projectors, mesh warping, Bezier masking, soft-edge blending, DMX/LED features, 3D calibration, timelines, and NDI/Spout/Syphon connectivity.
Choose it when you expect the project to grow into advanced multi-output installation work and are comfortable with a larger professional toolset.
3. Resolume Arena
Resolume Arena is a natural fit when Windows is running a VJ/live-performance setup. Arena’s Advanced Output system provides projection mapping and edge blending while the rest of Resolume handles clips, effects, layers, performance control, and NDI workflows.
If you are performing visuals throughout a show, that broader environment is an advantage. For a fixed mapped installation with a handful of surfaces, you may not need all of it.
4. HeavyM
HeavyM emphasizes quick creation, built-in visual content, and accessible drawing/mapping tools. It is worth considering when the visual-generation side is just as important as alignment and you want to get a show looking interesting quickly.
5. TouchDesigner
TouchDesigner is the Windows choice when your projection map is part of a custom interactive system. Camera tracking, sensors, audio analysis, procedural visuals, networking, data, and custom logic can all become part of the project.
Derivative provides a free Non-Commercial edition for learning and personal/non-commercial work, but commercial projects require an appropriate paid license. It is much more powerful than a simple mapping tool—and correspondingly more complex to learn.
6. SurfaBeam
SurfaBeam’s vendor currently provides Windows alongside macOS, iOS/iPadOS, and Android versions. It is worth considering if you want the same general mapping product family across desktop and mobile devices.
Windows display setup tips
- Press Windows + P and choose Extend, not Duplicate.
- Set the projector to its native resolution when possible.
- Make the projector a separate display instead of the primary editing monitor.
- Disable unexpected scaling if the output dimensions do not match the software canvas.
- For unattended installations, disable sleep, display timeout, automatic restarts, and notification overlays.
